SUNSET PARK - The city unveiled its newest state-of-the-art recycling plant in Sunset Park Thursday.

The facility, located on Second Avenue and 30th Street, opened earlier this month as part of a public-private partnership between the city and Sims Metal Management. City officials say recycling helps cut down on New York's massive amount of garbage that ends up in landfills.

Sunset Park organization Uprose consulted with the city and Sims Metal Management on the new facility. The organization's director, Elizabeth Yeampierre, says the collaboration was about creating jobs and protecting the environment.

Officials say in order for the mission to be a success, residents must be diligent about putting their recycling curbside.
