BENSONHURST - Brooklyn residents undertook a major cleanup project Thursday after fierce wind gusts downed trees and caused power outages overnight.

Bensonhurst residents say winds that blew through Wednesday felt like a tornado, with anything that wasn't tied down being whooshed away.

"I looked out to see if there was damage to my house in the backyard, and as I came around the driveway I could see that the tree had cracked and fell on my neighbor's property," says Mary Somoza.

The tree was cleared out Thursday, but the house is in need of serious repairs, Somoza says.
