BROWNSVILLE - Community members say that a lack of recreational activities for children is partly to blame in the tragic death of a 12-year-old in Brownsville Sunday.

Yakim McDaniels was playing with friends on a moving parking gate when he became entangled in the gate and was killed.

Residents say that Yakim was seen playing a lot of basketball at the Brownsville Recreation Center, the only one of its kind in the area. The center closes early on Sundays, however.Meanwhile, Councilman Charles Barron's office says that the company that owns the building and gate, Omni New York, has announced it will remove the gate.
