COBBLE HILL - The Cobble Hill community is celebrating a victory today in the fight to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH).

Doctors, nurses and community members joined mayoral hopeful and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio to celebrate a judge's recent decision.

The court recently rejected SUNY Downstate's closure plan for LICH and ruled that the state's process for approving hospital closure plans is "unconstitutionally vague."

Judge Johnny Bayne's decision stems from a lawsuit filed by doctors and nurses a few months ago.

Supporters of LICH expect the ruling to have sweeping effects on other hospitals facing closure, including Interfaith Medical Center in Bedford-Stuvesant.

While the judge's decision simply buys more time, it may be enough for LICH to find a new hospital director and Interfaith to restructure.
