BROOKLYN - Con Ed crews responded to a manhole explosion in Greenpoint this morning where there was also an apparent wire explosion.

One witness says burning wires on Kingsland Avenue caused a driver to hit the curb and jump out of his vehicle, apparently scared by the loud explosion.

Some customers in the area lost power at around 7 a.m. Con Edison says all outages will be restored by Thursday night.

Officials say it's unclear whether the manhole fire had anything to do with the smoldering wires.
