Con Ed reduces voltage in some parts of BK

BROOKLYN - Con Edison has reduced voltage to 15 neighborhoods in Brooklyn today because of problems with electrical cables that supply power.

The utility has reduced voltage by 8 percent to Flatbush, East Flatbush, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Old Mill Basin, Bergen Beach, Georgetown, Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, Seagate and Gravesend.

Con Edison says some appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners won't work for about 120,000 of their customers. The utility is asking residents living in affected areas to conserve energy and turn off non-essential appliances.

Crews are currently working to repair the problem. Con Edison says it expects power to be fully restored by tonight.
