BROOKLYN - Con Edison says power has been restored in Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights after thousands of customers reported outages this afternoon for nearly two hours.

They say there are about 900 scattered outages remaining across the borough.

The outages were caused by downed overhead wires, according to the utility.

Some residents of a six-story building on 80th Street near Seventh Avenue say their elevator went out, along with all of the power. Other residents were concerned about how long the outage would last, and how it would affect being able to cook.

Con Edison had said earlier Saturday afternoon that almost 8,000 customers were without power.

Residents with restored power say they were relieved the outage was short-lived and that it serves as a reminder to keep emergency supplies in their homes.
