BROOKLYN - The Coney Island beach is officially back open for the summer season.

Saturday's chilly and windy weather did not stop Brooklyn residents from hitting the beach to soak up some rays.

The city's Parks Department kicked off beach season on Thursday, but Saturday was the first day lifeguards were on duty.

Brooklyn residents and visitors say they have been highly anticipating summer after what felt like a long winter.

The Coney Island beach will be open every day through Sept. 7.
