Coney Island extends season to Halloween

CONEY ISLAND - Officials at Coney Island say they did so well this summer that they have extended the season.

According to the mayor's office, more than 400,000 visitors made their way to Coney Island this summer. It is the most visitors the tourist attraction has seen in 46 years.

Officials credit the Coney Island revitalization plan as the reason for the success. They say the opening of Luna Park and rebuilding the boardwalk have brought in the most visitors.

Luna Park is also extending its season. "Nights of Horror" will debut on Oct. 15 and the haunted maze will run on weekends until Halloween. The season will then officially end with the first-ever Coney Island children's Halloween parade.
