Coney Island Hospital lays off 11 staff members

(08/20/10) CONEY ISLAND - A round of layoffs has reduced the number of helping hands at Coney Island Hospital.

Officials say the hospital let 10 doctors and one nurse go, a significant number considering the facility has 400 beds and had nearly 300,000 clinic visits last year.

The cuts come as a part of the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation's plan to save $1.3 billion.

News 12 Brooklyn has learned that Woodhall and Kings County hospitals will also be affected by cuts.
