BROOKLYN - Coney Island residents outraged that a community garden was demolished last December say they're now planning to sue the city.

The city demolished the community garden, which had been in use for more than a decade, on West 22nd Street near the boardwalk to make way for a new amphitheater.

Residents held a rally at Borough Hall Wednesday, demanding the city leave their garden alone. Members of the New York City Community Garden Coalition claim the community board voted against the amphitheater, but on the last day of the year, the City Council voted it through.

The Parks Department says residents never obtained the proper license to use the land and that they had been using it illegally.
