BROOKLYN - Luna Park in Coney Island is set to open to the public Memorial Day weekend.

Luna Park will premiere a new ride designed for thrill-seekers. The redone Thunderbolt Roller Coaster is now 12 stories high and goes about 55 mph.

Locals residents say they are excited to get back to Coney Island for the unofficial summer kickoff.

"It's like when you are a little kid, that's the only thing you look forward to all winter long and all spring long," says Ann Daratami, of Coney Island.

Luna Park has also expanded its hours for the season and will stay open until midnight and possibly later during the weekends.
