CONEY ISLAND - Tenants of one Coney Island building complex say they are coping with flooding that contains human waste.

Residents of the New York City Housing Authority's (NYCHA) Surfside Gardens building say the sewage has been seeping into their units every six months. They say it happens when sewage lines are not properly cleaned.

Tenants say the problem started back in the 1970s, and they worry it could cause health issues.

NYCHA officials say they are aware of the sewage drainage problem, but say it was brought to their attention only recently.
