BROOKYLN - Prospect Heights residents are coping with a rat infestation, and they say construction at Atlantic Yards may be to blame.

Neighbors say they've seen rats scurrying down their streets and in their parks. Holes left by the disease-carrying rodents can be seen on street corners and in local gardens.

An organization of local residents says the community has been dealing with the furry infestation since 2007, when excavation began around Pacific and Dean streets, near 6th Avenue.

The Department of Health says it's assessing the area and addressing the issue.
