Consumer group releases toxic toys report

BROOKLYN - A consumer protection group has compiled a list of hazardous and toxic toys that are in stores during this holiday season throughout New York City.

According to the New York Public Interest Research Group, the FurReal Baby Bird by Hasbro and the Pizza Planet Gift Pak by Mattel have many small parts but don't come with choking hazard warnings.

Consumer groups also say some backpacks featuring popular cartoon characters contain high levels of lead.

The Toy Manufacturers' Association says testing has never been stricter. However, although consumer groups agree that toys are getting safer, they add that the standards still need to be higher.
