Cops: 1 dead, 1 injured in shooting at 885 Gates Ave.

Police say two men were found with gunshot wounds amid an apparent fire at an apartment building, and one of them has died.

BROOKLYN - Police say two men were found with gunshot wounds amid an apparent fire at an apartment building, and one of them has died.

Police and fire officials were called to 885 Gates Ave. at around 4:30 p.m. due to a smoke condition.

Authorities say 24-year-old Qasim Mitchell was found shot in the head inside a smoke-filled apartment on the first floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also found a 38-year-old man who was shot in the shoulder. The victim was transported to Kings County Hospital.
