Cops probe connection in fatal shooting, stray bullet

BROWNSVILLE - Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot dead on a Brownsville street and are investigating if the shooting is connected to a girl being hit by a stray bullet.According to police, the 27-year-old victim was killed when bullets flew Friday afternoon. The shooting occurred near a school. Police say nearly two blocks away, a 9-year-old girl was shot in the arm after a stray bullet came crashing through her window in her Sutter Avenue apartment.

The girl was rushed to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. Police are investigating if the bullet stemmed from the gunfire that occurred around the same time.

Neighbors say the hope the shootings will be a wake up call for the community to stop the violence.
