LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Penn. - A Pennsylvania coroner has issued a death certificate for Laura Garza, which states her cause of death was due to "traumatic asphyxia," or strangulation.The 25-year-old Brooklyn woman disappeared in Dec. 2008 and her remains were found in a Pennsylvania field last April.Michael Mele, a convicted sex offender from Orange County, N.Y., has been charged in her murder. The autopsy was conducted by Dr. Michael Baden, a renowned forensic pathologist, at the state police lab in Albany.Garza's remains are now expected to be flown to her family in Texas for her burial.
