BED-STUY - City Councilman Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn) threw his hat into the governor?s race today and announced the creation of a new party he will be running under.

Barron says black New Yorkers are underrepresented in politics and that his Freedom Party will focus on issues directly affecting that population.

?This party will be a champion for the people,? Barron says. ?This party is going to say to the state ?no longer can you take us for granted.??

The Freedom Party expects to also run candidates for attorney general and lieutenant governor.
