Crime rates on the rise in East New York

(09/29/10) EAST NEW YORK - New NYPD statistics show crime is on the rise in East New York.

The new reports says death tolls are climbing in East New York as the murder rate soars. This time last year there were 16 reported murders in the 75th Precinct. This year there have been 23.

Rapes and robberies are also increasing. This time last year there were a reported 35 rapes and this year there have been 43. Robberies have increased by 14 percent since last year.

Neighbors say an increase in police presence would definitely help. They say every time a potential criminal sees a police officer it is a deterrant for them to commit a crime.
