BROOKLYN - City beaches officially open today and many people are kicking off the Memorial Day weekend by visiting Coney Island to take advantage of the beach-ready weather.

Brooklyn residents and Coney Island newcomers said they were excited to get to the beach, praising Coney Island for both its cleanliness and convenience.

Beachgoers noticed an added police presence on both the boardwalk and the beach itself. Police officers were on patrol, enforcing the new law that prohibits smoking at all city beaches.
