BROOKLYN - Crown Heights parents packed the sidewalks outside P.S. 161 yesterday in an effort to keep their neighborhood school from closing its doors.

Protesters said they want answers from the Department of Education (DOE) about why the school was placed on the city's list of under-performing institutions.

The principal says he just started in September and wants the chance to turn the school around. Parents also say they blame the DOE for a loss of resources due to funding cuts.
