BROOKLYN - Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has filed lawsuits against several companies for defrauding Haitians after the recent earthquake.

The lawsuit alleges company staff has been illegally providing legal advice. Company staff members are not lawyers but have been representing clients before immigration authorities and charging thousands for the service.

Haitian nationals who have been affected by the earthquake can apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) up to 18 months at no cost.
