BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - A man shot by police Saturday in Bed-Stuy is now facing charges.

Police say two officers saw the suspect, 27-year-old Dairon Bledsoe, hitting their squad car with a cane Saturday morning on Broadway. When they approached him, police say Bledsoe used the cane to hit the female officer in the face. The second officer then shot Bledsoe, hitting him in the torso.

Bledsoe was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he's expected to be OK. He now faces several charges, including felony assault and assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.

Some witnesses say they believe the suspect has mental disabilities, and feel that shooting him was too extreme.
