Day care institutes stricter rules after alleged abduction attempt

BROOKLYN - A day care in Sunset Park is instituting stricter rules after police say a man tried to abduct a girl there last week.

Police say Zheng Jian Ting tried to abduct a 3-year-old girl from Happy Dragon Children and Family Center last Thursday. Managers at the day care denied him access to the child and prevented what officials say could have been a tragedy.

Ting?s family however, says the incident was a misunderstanding. It says Ting was asked to pick up his cousin?s daughter from another Sunset Park day care and got the address wrong.

Staff says the girl he tried to pick up had the same age and name as his family member at the other day care.

The day care will now require everyone to show identification when picking up a child.
