BROOKLYN - About 800 Brooklyn families who were at risk of losing their Section 8 vouchers have been spared.

The city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, in a deal with state and federal officials, agreed to spend $32 million to fund the 2,500 city vouchers that were endangered.

Under the Section 8 program, voucher recipients put 30 percent of their income toward rent at private apartments.
