Death of woman in East Flatbush apartment fire ruled a homicide

EAST FLATBUSH - Police are now investigating the death of a woman in an East Flatbush apartment fire Tuesday as a homicide.

Fire officials say the fire broke out in the woman?s basement apartment on Troy Avenue. According to the medical examiner, the 47-year-old woman found dead was strangled. Neighbors say the woman lived in the apartment with her boyfriend.

Neighbors say the rear of the building sustained the most damage. The name of the victim was not released, but police did notify her family. The cause of the fire and the woman?s death are under investigation.
