CONEY ISLAND - Debris and abandoned vehicles are littering the residential sidewalks in Coney Island after Superstorm Sandy blasted the area with intense wind and rain.

News 12 Brooklyn's Kena Vernon spoke with local residents who feared for their safety as intense floodwaters were powerful enough to prop a Mercedes SUV on to a mailbox.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the biggest challenge after the storm will be to restore power to the hardest hit areas of the storm.
