BROOKLYN - Brooklyn residents braved a bitter cold blast that hit the borough.

The Department of Homeless Services issued a code blue alert, which means crews are on the streets 24 hours a day looking for homeless people and bringing them indoors to shelters.

Officials say residents who spot homeless people in need of a warm place to stay can call 311 for assistance.
