Dems choose assemblyman to run for Weiner seat

BROOKLYN - A state assemblyman from Queens is competing for the seat formerly held by disgraced Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Democratic leaders have selected Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Little Neck) to run for the 9th District Congressional Seat.

Republicans have not chosen a candidate to run at this time.

Weiner was forced to resign last month after sending inappropriate photos of himself to women via Twitter.

A special election to fill the seat, which covers Brooklyn and Queens, will be held Sept. 13
