Department of Buildings pitches in with Habitat for Humanity

OCEAN HILL - The Department of Buildings (DOB) is collaborating with Habitat for Humanity to help build a new apartment building for low-income families in Brooklyn.

The structure itself was built by Habitat for Humanity, but with the help of the Department of Buildings, the inside is being completed. Twenty DOB employees have given up their vacation time to help out, and families that will be living in the building are also pitching in with the work.

According to Josh Lockwood, the executive director for New York City's Habitat for Humanity branch, 91 homes, condos, and apartment buildings are currently under construction in Brooklyn. The buildings are also enviornmentally friendly, making utility bills more affordable for the tenants.
