BROOKLYN - Payphones may seem like a thing of the past, but they're about to get a major futuristic makeover.

Six finalists have been announced in the city's payphone redesign contest, and the public gets to help dial in to the final winner by voting online.

Finalist NYC Loop has been voted the best in creativity with its plan to provide sound harmonizing technology and smart screens for making calls.

The finalists were selected from more than 125 submissions. Officials say 11,000 phones citywide are due for an upgrade.
