BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn family received a ransom call asking for $15,000 after their beloved pet went missing three weeks ago.

Wanda Soto says her 7-year-old Maltese, Precious, was playing in the backyard of her Flatbush Avenue home when the wind knocked a gate open. The dog ran out and Soto searched until she received a call the next day asking for $15,000 in ransom.

Soto says the caller would not agree to a meeting and has not called back. A similar incident occurred to the Belman family, who received a ransom call in early February for their dog, Sugar.

Police are investigating the incidents.
