Dog thefts on the rise across Brooklyn, nation

BROOKLYN - It is a trend happening all over the country, including in our area - dog thefts are on the rise.

Brooklyn resident Wanda Soto says her pooch ?Precious? was stolen in April and held for $1,500 ransom.

New York ranked among the top 10 in dog thefts with pure bred dogs most at risk, including Yorkies, Pomeranians, bull dogs and beagles, according to the American Kennel Club.

The AKC suggests never letting your dog off its leash and keeping a close watch on all pets.
