DOT eyes Greenpoint bike lanes

BROOKLYN - Brooklyn is another step closer to becoming more bicycle-friendly with bike lane construction headed to Greenpoint.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) wants to reconstruct a 12-block truck route on West Street into a one-way street with two bike lanes.

Neighborhood leaders say the work is part of a larger project called Brooklyn Greenway, which will eventually connect the entire borough's waterfront with a 14-mile bike path.

Greenpoint's Community Board 1 plans to meet on the proposal later this month.
