PROSPECT PARK - Construction on new bike lanes in Prospect Park has begun, but not everyone is going along for the ride.

A two-way bike lane will stretch from Grand Army Plaza to Bartel Pritchard Square on Prospect Park West.

City officials say the lanes will help calm traffic in the area. However, critics say that?s not likely because the three-lane roadways will become two-lane roads to make room for the bicyclists.

Opponents also say they would rather see the Department of Transportation work on fixing potholes and not waste space.

The DOT says work on the bike lanes might not be finished until August.
