BROOKLYN - A construction accident Saturday morning closed streets and a major borough landmark in Downtown Brooklyn.
Fire crews responded to the corner of Tillary and Adams streets by Cadman Plaza at around 9:30 a.m. Officials say a construction worker hit a gas line, causing the leak.
Firefighters and police officers secured the scene, but drivers were not allowed down Tillary Street until the leak was capped. The Brooklyn Bridge was also closed for more than an hour, and the federal courthouse nearby was evacuated.
Officials say that people are allowed back into the courthouse, but its windows must be kept open as a precaution.
The nearby streets and the Brooklyn Bridge have since reopened to traffic.
No injuries were reported.
National Grid is still investigating the situation.
