BROOKLYN - It's that time of year when people start to sniffle, cough and sneeze, but doctors are offering some tips to defend against the common cold.
According to Dr. Alida Rosado, catching a cold during the winter months is easy because the body's defenses tend to be low.
Rosado recommends wearing weather-appropriate clothing, and says it's important to cover your sneeze and cough, and regularly wash your hands with soap and hot water. The next best thing to soap and water is an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Rosado is also encouraging everyone to get the flu shot, which she says is very aggressive and can bring on complications such as pneumonia.
