Driver who dragged Brownsville grandma to her death is arrested

BROWNSVILLE - Police have arrested the driver in a hit-and-run that ended with a grandmother being dragged to her death in Brownsville.

Witnesses say a Chevy TrailBlazer hit Damiana Zuniga blocks away from her home while she crossed Mother Gaston Boulevard at Livonia Avenue Friday. The victim?s brother says the driver kept going, dragging Zuniga to her death before tearing off a side mirror on a parked car. Police found the abandoned vehicle near the scene and tracked down the driver from there.

Neighbors remember Zuniga as a well-known, compassionate woman. They say she was coming home from a beauty salon when she was hit. Zuniga?s brother calls the driver a coward who tried to run from justice.
