BROOKLYN - A small community within East New York is marking an entire year of peace without gun violence.

A 10-man group called Cure Violence has been patrolling the neighborhood in response to a spike in shootings. It breaks up confrontations and enlightens troubled youth about not resorting to gun play.

Residents bought 365 balloons to celebrate the milestone Sunday, each one representing a day without a taken life.

A prayer was also said for those who have been killed before all of the balloons were released.
