EAST NEW YORK - The slaying of a teen in the East New York section of Brooklyn has left his family in mourning, and compelled other teens to rally for change.
Police responded to a 911 call Monday at Pitkin Avenue and Bradford Street where they found 16-year-old Henry Talbert with a gunshot wound to his torso. Authorities say the teen was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. Investigators say witnesses reported seeing the shooter, who remains at large, fleeing the scene on foot. Family members describe the teen as a smart boy who didn't deserve to die so young. They want police to bring their relative's killer to justice.Meanwhile, the victim's classmates walked out of school Wednesday armed with candles, flowers and pictures of the teen. The students set up a makeshift memorial where Talbert lost his life. Some residents say it was the largest gathering of young people against violence the community has seen.Anyone with information about the slaying is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
