BROOKLYN - The East New York Community is celebrating the groundbreaking of a green, affordable housing development in the Spring Creek part of Brooklyn.
The Gateway Elton Street Phase II development will have three buildings with 175 affordable rental units.
The city says the project will have the largest solar panel energy system on a residential development in the state.
The Department of Housing Preservation and Development says Gateway Elton Street Phase II will offset 456,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
All new buildings will be non-smoking.
