EAST NEW YORK - An East New York mother says that police wrongfully broke down her door and roughed up her son.

Juwana Newman says that police banged down her fourth-floor door when she was at work Wednesday morning.

She says they trashed her bedroom and accuses the officers of roughing up her son, who was asleep when they entered.

"To see my son have to go through such violence in his own home, I feel very uncomfortable," Newman says. "I feel violated, you know, like I'm not even feeling secured and safe in my own comfort zone."

According to neighbors, police went through the apartment to reach the fire escape in pursuit of a suspect who was hiding on the building's roof.

Police say that the officers were in pursuit of a suspect who was attempting to flee on the fire escape, but that they did not have any contact with the son or anyone else inside the apartment.
