Edward R. Murrow High School in Midwood wins City High School Chess Championship
MIDWOOD - A Midwood high school has been named the city's best chess team and the students now have their sights set on winning the state and national titles.
Edward R. Murrow High School has won the city championship 18 times since 1981, when Eliot Weiss first became coach. The high school won the national title last year.
Weiss says chess teaches the students strategy and planning, and students call being on the chess team a great experience.
