Elderly woman killed in Bed-Stuy fire

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - Police say an elderly woman was killed today when a fire ripped through her Bedford-Stuyvesant building.

FDNY Deputy Chief Vinny Mandala says the fire started on the second floor of 653 Greene Ave. and spread to the top two floors.

Mandala says firefighters tried to rescue the woman from her third-floor apartment but were too late. She died later at Woodhull Medical Center.
