BROOKLYN - Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) say that they have submitted a plan to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the much-needed cleanup of the Gowanus Canal.

The plan is called the Clean Water Act, and officials are currently waiting on feedback from the DEP in order to get started with the cleanup efforts.

Post-Sandy samples taken from the canal revealed high levels of bacteria, as well as low levels of gasoline and diesel.
