Ex-hoops star accused of robbery, kidnapping

BROOKLYN - A promising college basketball star was arrested Tuesday for allegedly robbing eight people at gunpoint.

According to police, 23-year-old Robert Mitchell, of Brooklyn, broke into a South Orange, N.J. home Monday and held eight people inside a room. Officials say he forced them to give up their credit cards, cell phones and digital cameras.

Police say Mitchell made off with $300 in cash. He has been charged with kidnapping, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The incident happened just one day after Mitchell was kicked off the basketball team at Seton Hall University. The school has not said why he was taken off the team.

Mitchell has pleaded guilty to all charges and is being held on $650,000 bail. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
