Ex-officer arrested in Marine Park pharmacy robberies

BROOKLYN - A former New York Police Department detective has been arrested in connection with several armed pharmacy robberies in Marine Park.

Police say Salvatore Dellacave was arrested yesterday afternoon during a traffic stop. He has been accused of stealing Oxycontin, other painkillers and cash from pharmacists he held up at gunpoint in broad daylight.

According to officials, the robberies happened more than 10 times since the beginning of March, with the latest incident occurring last Friday.

Dellacave was forced to retire after hurting his shoulder while on the job in 2007 and allegedly became dependent on painkillers following that injury.
