BROOKLYN - Yesterday was the first day to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
News 12 Brooklyn reporter Amanda Plasencia spoke with Bert Scott, the CEO of Affinity Health Plan, to break down how to navigate the new system.
He says that for the first time, individuals who are uninsured or insured, but cannot afford their health coverage, can now buy insurance through a rational marketplace.
“There are 16 plans participating in this so, not only do you have a choice of the benefits, but you have a choice of who you want to deliver your care,” said Scott. “Before, you had no choice."
The sign up process on Healthcare.gov had a few glitches on Oct. 1 but Scott says the procedure is relatively simple.
"It will be time consuming, but it's worth it,” says Scott.
