THE BRONX - Experts say that the stress and worry that sometimes comes with the holidays can have a dangerous impact on your mental health.

Dr. Pablo Ibanez, of St. Barnabas Hospital, is offering tips to combat the holiday blues.

He says it's important to remember that there are a lot of people feeling the same way.

Ibanez says signs to look out for are feeling lonely, anxious, and a general sense of feeling detached from the joy of the holiday.

He says to combat holiday depression, people should join a group or do volunteer work.  Ibanez says that walking outside or any form of exercise can do a world of good to get out of the holiday blues.

"Warm weather helps in the sense that people can get out of their homes when there is light. We know light helps with depressive symptoms," he says.

People should contact their doctor if they are suffering from more severe symptoms of depression.
